Golden Globe Fashion-Fashwon Review: only the cool dresses

16 Jan

I have been to the Golden Globes many times and it’s one of the most fun fun award shows around. Let me clarify that I have worked the Golden Globes, not actually been invited. I think it’s because the show & the parties are all in the same building and I have to say that it’s much more relaxed than the Oscars. People have more fun at the GG’s, where at the Oscars you need passes for every 5 feet and sometimes they expire by 12noon or 2 pm or 5 pm, and everyone thinks they are so important. Ugh! So I enjoy the Globes very much…once at the InStyle party I enjoyed it waaay too much, which is a story only to be told after a few pitchers of margaritas. Now lets talk fashion…I mean “fashwon”! It was one of the best fashion award shows I’ve seen in a long time, but still it looks like everyone just wears the same dress over and over; the strapless, the one shoulder, the drape, the ruching…it all looks too familiar. This time around I am only concentrating on the dresses I thought were cool. No “Best” or “Worst” dress from me cuz in 2012 I am doing my best to give love to all and not create bad karma because I have my fill already…although….no, I’m not going to do it. I am going to do categories which will start with:

1) WORK IT & COMMIT! These ladies had severe fierceness and didn’t give it up one second.

-Angelina Jolie in Versace…ok, I said I wasn’t going to do give a “Best” dressed but if I was going to…she might be it. She is the queen of the red carpet. I do wish that someone would ask her who she’s wearing and she would say “Ver-sayse”.

-Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann. Anyone who wears Haider Ackermann is the coolest person ever. Hopefully one day I can afford an ebay 75%off sale Haider Ackermann item like a button or a piece of string, which is all I can afford. You know Tilda is just the coolest regardless of what she wears, but I love how her whole look is committed to itself.

-Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci. She just knows how to work a piece of art on the red carpet. She really needs to give posing lessons to other un-named-bad-posing actresses on the red carpet.

2) I AM SO HOT IN THIS DRESS! These ladies are showing of their sexiness and feeling their sexy selves in a perfectly designed dress that transforms their public persona.

-Michelle Lea in Marchesa. Now Michelle Lea always dresses well for the red carpet, but here she is sizzling. She knows she looks amazing! I love that she took a chance with this partially sheer sequin dress.

-Emma Stone in Lanvin. I think of Emma Stone as a cute cool chick, but here she is sexy chic. She is giving fashion confidence.

3) SWEET N’ CHIC: lovely ladies giving fashion.

-Zoey Deschanel in Prada. Zoey is the ultimate cute girl and here she has taken it to a new fashion level. Her sixties inspired hair and make up (by Makeup artist Jorjee Douglass) go excellent with her custom made Prada retro-y dress.

-Romola Garai in Alessandra Rich. I don’t know who Romola is or the designer Alessandra- but I do now! What a great collaboration of “sweet & chic”. Romola is my new fave actress & Alessandra is my new fave designer.

-Busy Phillips in Temperely London. I love Busy in Cougartown and I love that she wore Temperely. She is so darn cute and this dress has a cool California chic feel that suits her perfectly (which is ironic because its a British designer). I wish she was my best friend…but only if she’s like her Cougartown character.

4) FANTASTIC DRESS: these are designs I just am in love with.

-Diana Argon in Giles Deacon. Super amazing cutting edge fashion. She looks great, and I hate to say it, but wish her hair/makeup/accessories matched a little little bit better with the dress. I love that she is a risk taker. This is a piece of art.

-Georgina Chapman in Marchesa. She IS Marchesa and represents is perfectly; soooo gorgeous.

-Jessica Chastain in Givenchy. I love this dress. I love her curves…not in love with her hair, but it’s ok since she is such a great actress & I love red heads.

There are a few others that I would put as some kind of honorable mention like Claire Danes & Charlize Theron, but I’ve been on this for a while now and I’m tired. I give big fashwon (you have to say it like you’re from texas, instead of saying “fashion”) star to all the above ladies & designers & stylists & hair & makeup. Thanks for being so fab!
